13-year old Handome Michelle, a Junior Secondary School 3 student from St. Gregory College, Obinomba in Ukwuani Local Government Area and 15-year old Oseghele Esosa Favour, Senior Secondary School 3 student of Ughelli Mixed Secondary School in Ughelli North Local Government Area, have won the 2019 Chris Ikomi Memorial Essay Competition for Junior and Senior Secondary School Categories, respectively.

Our Senior Correspondent who covered the award presentation at Asaba yesterday, reports that in the junior category, Okpure Excel Oghenerona of Day Spring Christian International School, Opete in Udu Local Government Area, came second, while Olomukoro Nicolette of Royal Mira All Saints College, Asaba, won the third position.
In the senior secondary school category, Ohu Favour, of Orient Academy Group of Schools, Agbor, emerged the first runner-up, leaving the third position for Master Odibo Ehimen John, of Holy Martyr of Uganda Minor Seminary, Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area.
Fresh Angle International can report that the annual Chris Ikomi Memorial Essay Competition, is one of several efforts by the NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture, to promote educational development in Nigeria. It is organized yearly in partnership with Delta State Ministry of Education.
In his remarks, the General Manager Policy, Government and Public Affairs, PGPA, Chevron Nigeria Limited, Esimaje Brikinn, said the 2019 edition of the Chris Ikomi Memorial Essay Competition, is the 18th in the series.
Mr. Brikinn, expressed delight over the interest shown by students toward the study of English Language, adding that 1, 248 students across the 25 Local Government Areas in Delta State, participated in the 2019 edition, which produced five female winners and a male.
The Chevron PGPA General Manager, who was represented by the PGPA Superintendent, Tony Emegere, disclosed that the theme for the 2019 Chris Ikomi Memorial Essay Competition was: "Advancing Nigeria through Technology", noting that it is to encourage young scholars to exercise their fertile minds to new technology in the quest to develop Nigeria.
He emphasized that the NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture was committed to improving the quality of education in Nigeria, through investment in educational infrastructure, sponsorship, manpower development as well as provision of scholarships.
The Chevron PGPA Boss, commended the Delta State Government and congratulated the winners for their outstanding performance as it affects the study of English Language.
Delta State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Chief Patrick Ukah, commended Chevron Nigeria Limited and the family of Chris Ikomi for their support in sustaining the competition for the past 18 years.
Chief Ukah charged the students to take their studies seriously, in order to excel more than their teachers and people in government, even as he boasted that Delta State would soon be among the first three states in Nigeria, in terms of educational development.
