Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Comr. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac, says Insecticide-Treated Nets, ITNs, are highly effective in preventing malaria, offering both personal and community-wide protection as well as repels mosquitoes or kill them when they land on the ITNs.
Fresh Angle International, can report that the Warri South Local Government Boss, who gave the advantages Monday May 26 at the Warri South Council Main Secretariat in Warri, Delta State, while Flagging-off the Distribution of Insecticide Treated Nets in Warri South, said (ITNs) works by physically blocking mosquitoes from reaching people, hence preventing bites.

Comr. Agbateyiniro, noted: “Malaria has significant public health implication, being a Leading cause of death in Sub-sahran African.
“Malaria is a significant public health challenge in Nigeria, particularly among children under five years and pregnant women.

“Insecticide-Treated Mosquito Net (ITNs) are highly effective in preventing malaria, offering both personal and community wide protection. (ITNs) works by physically blocking, mosquitoes from reaching people, hence preventing bites.
“The insecticide coating on the net either repels mosquitoes or kill them when they land on them.

“When a high percentage of people in a community use (ITNs), the overall mosquito population and their life span are reduced, further reducing malaria transmission.
“ITNs reduce malaria incidence and illness, especially in endemic regions.
“Considering the benefits of using ITNs, I sincerely thank Global funds, Catholic Relief Service and Society for Family Health, SFH for making these nets available.

“With the commencement of distribution of the nets today, I urge all present here to make it a point of duty to go to the numerous distribution sites all around the LGA to collect their (ITNs) using the e-token slips.
“I request that we encourage people around us to do same and put the nets to proper use.
“While appreciating the health workers for all they have been doing since the beginning of this programme, I urge them to work even harder at ensuring that the Insecticide treated nets (ITNs) get to the households where they are very much needed.”
Warri South Council Supervisor for Health, Hon. Ese Gift Deduwa, in his remarks, commended Comr. Agbateyiniro and his wife, Mrs. Roli Agbateyiniro, for supporting the programme and accepting to become advocates of distribution of the Insecticide Treated Nets.

Hon. Deduwa, disclosed that the programme for distribution of Insecticide Treated Nets, comes up every three years, expressing optimism that Warri South will take the lead in the state.
The Federal Representative, Society for Family Health, Mr. Silas Asso Ezhim, who also spoke during the ceremony, revealed: “Warri South Local Government, has the highest distribution of Insecticide Treated Nets in the whole of Delta State.
“We started with the training of 14 ward supervisors and trained 420 household mobilizers.
“The total number of Insecticide Treated Nets for Delta State is 222, 217.”
According to Mr. Ezhim, there are 105 distribution points in seven wards across Warri South Local Government Area, saying the distribution points are in Bowen, Ekurede, Obodo, Ode-Itsekiri, Igbudu, Pessu and Okere.
The Executive Secretary, Local Health Authority, Warri South Local Government Council, Dr. Oritsematosan Sagay, stated: “The whole process started February with lots of planning, micro -planning, several trainings and review meetings round the local government.
While thanking the Warri South Chairman for creating the enabling environment, Dr. Sagay, also appreciated the First Lady of Warri South, Mrs. Roli Agbateyiniro, for her support and encouragement.
Warri South Health Educator, Beatrice Onwo, who illustrated how to use the Insecticide Treated Nets, advised that the nets should be kept under shade for 72hrs, not under sun, before usage.
According to her, anyone who wants to wash the nets, can use toilet soap and dry it under shade, noting that it should be washed four times a year.
