Staffers of College of Education, Warri, COEWA alongside their counterparts at College of Education, Agbor both in Delta State have embarked on indefinite strike over their missing pension contribution, Fresh Angle can report.
Though feelers from the institutions were still sketchy as at the time of this report, a staff of College of Education, Warri, told Fresh Angle that neither management staff of the school nor the State Ministry of Education at Asaba could give account of the monies so far deducted from the monthly salaries of staff of the institution as their monthly pension since the contributing pension scheme was introduced over half a decade ago.
Fresh Angle learnt that while the non academic staff of College of Education, Warri commenced the indefinite strike Thursday February 20, their colleagues who lecture in the same institution were said to have embarked on the strike three weeks ago.
Unconfirmed reports say the State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Hope Oghenerukevwe Eghagha was said to have claimed ignorance of the where-about of the pension money, while some staff who attempted to access the pension fund through pin code earlier given to them were shocked to find zero balance despite years of deduction from their monthly salaries.
Fresh Angle investigations reveal that since the introduction of the contributory pension scheme, many workers in the state and local government public service are at loss as to the safety of their monthly pension contribution.
