Renowned Itsekiri historian and Chairman, ItsekiriLeaders of Thought, Pa. J.O.S. Ayomike has challenged Nigerians, particularlyItsekiris to work towards building world heritage sites in their communities.
He gave this charge while delivering a keynote address duringthe 2nd edition of Itsekiri Cultural Renaissance World Festival held recentlyat the Olu of Warri palace in Warri, Delta State.
While describing virtues like decency, integrity, wisdom,knowledge, selflessness, industry and love as strong elements in our culturewhich have declined, Pa. Ayomike enjoined Nigerians to reflect on theircultural root.
In a remark, the Minister for Culture, Tourism andOrientation, Chief Edem Duke described the Itsekiri Cultural Renaissance WorldFestival as one of the cultural fiestas in the country recognized by the Ministryof Culture, Tourism and Orientation. Chief Edem Duke who was represented by a Director in the ministry, Mr.George Hufford explained that the recognition of the Itsekiri cultural festivalis as a result of the rich cultural heritage the Itsekiri people of Niger Deltaare known for.
The Aboluderoof Warri kingdom, Ojoye Oma Eyewuoma, who was chairman of the occasion as wellas Chairman of the Itsekiri Cultural Renaissance World Festival PlanningCommittee, Mr. Emmanuel Okotie-Eboh were among other speakers who spokeglowingly about the Itsekiri cultural heritage.
