Family resists Delta Speaker’s moves to take possession of their lands

The family of Ezechie of Okpanam in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State has resisted the moves by Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly and governorship aspirant in the 2015 elections, Hon. Victor Ochie to forcefully acquire their lands in Akwaukwa family land of Ogbewele Okpanam near Asaba.

According to the release signed by Okonkwor Maxwell Ezechie on behalf of the family and made available to Fresh Angle, there was never a time the land was sold to Victor Ochei.

Okonkwor Ezechie further emphasized that there is an existing court order from the Akwukwu Igbo High Court restraining the Speaker, Hon. Victor Ochei from entering the disputed land.

Beside, the claims by Victor Ochei that he bought the lands from Okpanam and Ibusa communities is not true, said Okonkwor.

He further advised the Survey General of the Delta State Ministry of Lands, Surveys and Urban Development to disregard the claims by Victor Ochei and avoid being dragged to the mud by the politician because there is no iota of truth in his claims.

Okonkwor Maxwell Ezechie declared “Ochei is trying to use his position as Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly to forcefully take the possession of the disputed land without having respect for the rule of law”.

Reacting to the allegation through a telephone conversation, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Nkem Osu maintained that “it is prejudicial to comment on the matter that is already in the court and advised Our Correspondent to go to the court where the matter is instituted for information”, stressing that since he is not aware of the matter, he doesn’t have the competent to speak on the matter.

As at the time of going to the press, efforts made to reach the Delta State Commissioner for Lands, Surveys and Urban Development, Patrick Ferife or the State Survey General, proved abortive.
