Female farmers in Bomadi local government area now have reasons to expect a bountiful harvest in the coming harvest season as wife of Delta State Governor, Deaconess (Mrs.) Nere Roli Uduaghan through her Master Care Foundation has disbursed farm inputs including cassava cuttings, fertilizers and cash to the rural female farmers in the local government.

Distributing the items to the women, the wife of the Governor who was represented by the wife of the Transition Committee Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Area, Mrs. Miebi Olorogun said the move was to boost food production amongst female farmers in the local government, adding that empowering women through agriculture will guarantee food security as well as increase food production with a view to eliminating hunger and starvation in women and children.

The Delta State First Lady and founder of the Master Care Foundation noted that most rural farmers, especially women have little access to improved varieties for increased farm yields, noting that the gesture is to alleviate the suffering of female farmers amongst rural dwellers.

Mrs. Uduaghan posited “food security remains a critical tool for family wellbeing because it is often said that a hungry man is an angry man. Good food enhances immunity, especially amongst women and children who are worse hit by food shortage. The quality of food one eats is a reflection of their lives. You have a reason to be happy and proud if you have sufficient food to eat. When there is sufficient food for the woman and her children, there will be lasting sense of security and happiness in the family. Therefore, eliminating hunger and starvation is at the heart of this exercise”.

Addressing the various groups of female farmers in the local government area who converged at the council secretariat to receive the items, Mrs. Uduaghan advised them to make good use of the farm inputs, which she said will improve their condition during the harvest season.

The apparently delighted beneficiaries who were full of gratitude could not hold back their joy as they offered prayers for the Delta State first family and thanked them as well as the wife of the council chairman, Mrs. Miebi Olorogun for putting food on their tables.

Some women who have no knowledge of fertilizer application on crop were shown the method of application.

Highlight of the brief ceremony was the presentation of the farm inputs, including cash to the female farmers as well as orientating the women on how to apply fertilizer to crops.
