MDGs commences Baseline Facilities Inventory Mop-Up in Bomadi

The Millennium Development Goals, MDGs has commenced an on-the-ground practical data collection exercise from facilities not included in the 2012 baseline facilities inventory in Bomadi local government area with an appeal to stakeholders for their support and cooperation, Fresh Angle can report.

The Technical Assistant to the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Millennium Development Goals, OSSAP, Mr. Dennis Benni disclosed this in Bomadi, headquarters of Bomadi local government.

He disclosed that the team was in Bomadi local government for a 7-day exercise during which it will capture and update baseline facilities inventory Mop-up for 2014 as part of the Nigeria scale up project, noting that “the support and cooperation of stakeholders in the local government is essential for a smooth exercise”.

Briefing newsmen on day one of the exercise, Mr. Benni who is the head of a 3-man team revealed that the 7 days exercise was initiated by the interventionist agency to address grey areas during the baseline facilities inventory conducted in 2012. “The exercise will provide the agency with accurate data to assist it reach quality decisions in achieving MDGs target”, he explained.

The Technical Assistant maintained that the focus of the exercise was to find out primary school pupils and post primary enrollment, staff strength, number of classrooms, including those under construction, sanitary facilities and electricity supply status of a facility. He added, “the focus will also be centred on primary Health Care facilities in the local government area”.

In the implementation of the 2012 Conditional Grant Scheme, CGS, which Bomadi local government became qualified following payment of its counterpart funding of N40 million by the present Collins Olorogun led administration, Mr. Benni declared that the Grant was expended on projects that support the quest for the actualization of the Millennium Development Goals in the local government area, pointing out that some of the projects have been completed while others are at various stages of completion.

Some of MDGs’ on-going projects in Bomadi local government according to Mr. Benni include: 60% completion of 3 classroom block at the Bomadi Overside Primary School, Bomadi, renovation of PHC staff quarters at Ogo-Eze, 70% completion of 9 classroom block at Kpakiama Secondary School- Kpakiama, construction of 3 classroom block at Ekametagbene and construction of 3 classroom block for Amatebe Primary School- Bomadi.

Under the Agric business for cooperative society, Mr. Benni said 3 cooperative societies were selected for the provision of soft loan to enable farmers have food sufficiency, just as he further revealed that 10 village health workers were engaged after being trained to assist pregnant women access health facilities through its Village Health Worker’s Scheme VHWS.
