A brother in-law to Mrs. Felida Akiri, Publisher of Isoko Mirror Newspaper, Prince David Edafe Akiri has been shot dead by gunmen in front of his official apartment at the Delta State University Senior Staff quarters in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area, Fresh Angle can report.

Reports say Prince David Edafe Akiri who was a non academic staff of Delta State University, DELSU,  Abraka was returning from an outing Sunday April 27 when he was accosted and shot dead by the gunmen.

Exactly a week after Prince David Akiri was shot in circumstances suspected to be assassination, one of his two surviving brothers, Godspower Akiri died in an auto-crash at Oghara by Western Delta University while on a journey.

The report of Godspower Akiri’s death which occurred Sunday May 4 has further thrown the Akiri family, friends, associates and well wishers into deeper mourning.

The only surviving and elder brother to the two deceased and husband to Felida Akiri, Publisher of Isoko Mirror Newspapers, Prince Omamoke Akiri who spoke exclusively to Fresh Angle on mobile phone few days after the first of his late brothers was killed, said the larger Akiri family of Uzere kingdom in Isoko South local government area of Delta State is trying to see if they can get at those who killed Prince David Edafe Akiri, just as he noted that the death of Prince David Akiri has been reported to the police at Abraka.

According to Prince Omamoke Akiri, the gunmen who killed David Akiri “made the operation looked like armed robbery by collecting money from him”.

He explained that his late younger brother’s wife gave the gunmen over fifty thousand naira before going inside to bring another four thousand, but the gunmen claimed the money was too small.

Prince Omamoke who did not say if the gunmen collected the fifty four thousand naira disclosed that his brother “was shot in a low tone”.

The Vice Chancellor of Delta State University, Prof. Eric Arubayi who confirmed the incident, declined further comment and referred Our Senior Correspondent to the Institution’s Public Relations Officer who could not be reached as at press time.

Attempts to get comments from the Divisional Police Officer of Abraka Police Station were futile, as he was said to be busy.

Our Senior Correspondent reports that the late Prince David Edafe Akiri who was described as a father to all students irrespective of ethnic background is survived by five children and a wife.
