Boko Haram: NIS arrests alleged illegal immigrants in Delta

The Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS Delta State Command on Monday May 12 arrested hundreds of alleged illegal immigrants in a morning raid which took the twin cities of Warri and Effurun in Delta State by storm, Fresh Angle can authoritatively report.

Our Senior Correspondent reports that the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS and other sister security agencies, comprising the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corpse and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency raided the popular Igbudu Market and Warri Main Garage in Warri, arresting scores of the alleged illegal immigrants believed to Chadians and Nigeriens.

A Senior Immigration Official who pleaded anonymity told Fresh Angle at the NIS Warri Area Office that the arrests is sequel to a directive from the State Command to clamp down on illegal immigrants residing in Delta State in other to check possible attacks from the dreaded  Boko Haram and the activities of vicious Fulani herdsmen.

 

 

The Immigration Officials gave assurance that immigrants with legitimate residential documents who were arrested would be released, while those without legitimate stay document would be deported to their various countries.

 

 

Fresh Angle can report that while the raid lasted, youths in Igbudu Market maimed and stole personal effects from Hausa and Non-Hausas resident in the Igbudu Market area/ Hausa quarters. The youths allegedly attacked their victims with broken bottles, knives and daggers.

As at the time of filing this report, some of the illegal immigrants were seen evading arrests, while some traders in Igbudu Market who spoke to Fresh Angle, condemned the action of the youths.

 

 

It was also gathered from a credible source that those arrested were taken to NIS Warri Area Office from where arrangements would be made for their onward deportation.
