The Chairman House Committee on Trade and Investment in Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Matthew Poko Opuoru, has assured members of Urhobo Youth Leaders Association, UYLA, that he will consult his colleagues in the State House of Assembly, especially those from other ethnic nationalities, on the group’s demand for the next governor of Delta State, to come from the Urhobo Nation.

Fresh Angle International can report that Hon. Opuoru, who represents Warri South Constituency II in the State House of Assembly, gave the assurance Monday October 12, when he played host to members of UYLA at his Constituency Office in Warri, Delta State.

While stating that he was encouraged with the steadfast solidarity given to him by the Urhobo Youth Leaders Association, the lawmaker commended Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, for his ability to resolve issues amicably and urged Urhobos to remain united as well as make good use of their population optimally.

He reiterated that over 400 persons are under his grassroots empowerment payroll, totaling over three million naira monthly, saying his major constituency project for the current fiscal year, was executed at Essi College Warri, in order to support Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s policy of boasting quality education.

The Deputy National President of Urhobo Youth Leaders Association, UYLA, Chief Austin Atiti, earlier explained that the group was poised to champion the course of Urhobo Nation producing Delta State Governor come 2023, hence they are appealing to notable Urhobo leaders for their support towards actualizing the project.

He promised that they will mobilize for any Urhobo son or daughter that emerges as candidate for Delta Governorship position in 2023, saying they will never support any one who's not from Urhobo ethnic group for the same office.

Chief Atiti, cautioned his Urhobo kinsmen allegedly negotiating for the Deputy Governorship slot in 2023, to drop such ambition and support the quest for an Urhobo indigene for Governor at the expiration of Dr. Okowa’s tenure.

The group commended Hon. Opuoru for empowering his constituents and Urhobo Nation in general, adding: “We have not seen any Urhobo perform like you. Your performance is wonderful. We have never seen any constituency office by any member representing Warri South II in Delta Assembly, since its creation, but you have opened one. Support us in our agitation for 2023”.

The Commissioner Representing Ughelli South, Udu and Urhobos in Warri South in the board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Chief Vincent Oyibode, who also doubles as first Deputy National President of UYLA, President of UYLA, Chief Anthony Ofoni and Chief Westham Adehor, were among prominent members of UYLA that spoke during the consultative visit, which attracted Youth Leaders across Delta Central as well as Warri South.
