It was a black Sunday (May 25, 2014 ) for the family of Mr. & Mrs. Desmond Egharevba when they lost their only daughter, 15-year old Dorcas at about 8:30 pm to a hit and run vehicle.

The father, Mr. Desmond Egharevba while narrating his ordeal to Our Benin City Correspondent said he went to call his wife, Mrs. Joy Egharevba and their daughter, Dorcas from the market, explaining that as they were going home he received a call, thereby allowing his wife and daughter to walk past him while he was on the call.

The father further explained that as his daughter successfully crossed the first lane of the busy Oba Market Road in Benin City before a white bus hit her while crossing the second lane.

According to Mr. Desmond Egharevba, his daughter sustained a very deep cut in the back of her head, while one of her legs was broken before she was rushed to Central Hospital Benin where she eventually died, thus leading to a sudden collapse of Mrs. Joy Egharevba who was hospitalized and given urgent medical attention.

Mr. Desmond said immediately the accident happened, he rushed to the scene but did not see the white bus again as the driver speed off.

According to one of the female traders within the scene who prefer anonymity, a heated argument ensued between the little girl and her father, prompting the girl to advise the father to wait till they get home but the father was inpatient for them to get home hence, he got very annoyed at the little girl over an undisclosed statement made by her. The woman further said, Dorcas’ father pursued his daughter and in an attempt to escape her father’s wrath, she crossed the road without watching hence she was hit by the on-coming vehicle.

Another account claimed they were arguing over take-a-way pack of rice they brought from a party that same day when the accident occurred.

Meanwhile, mother of the 15-year old girl, Mrs. Joy Desmond who was discharged from the hospital Monday June 2 debunked the conflicting account via mobile call on how her daughter died, insisting that she was killed by a hit and run vehicle.

One of the eye witnesses said the bus driver who killed Dorcas immediately ran to the police station opposite Oba Market to make a formal report, but the police on duty on the day the accident occurred declared that the accident was not report.
