An academic, Prof. Paul Idornigie says “the North is more politically correct than the South”.

Professor Idornigie stated this during the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA law week held in Warri Wednesday June 11.

According to him, when the defunct Bendel State was split into Edo and Delta States during which those from Edo were told to return to their state and also when some states in the West as well as South-East like Anambra, Imo and others were created, indigenes from neighbouring states were given 48 hours to return to their home state, but in the Northern part of the country where more states were created, Joint Committees were set up on how to share their resources before final splitting of both human and material resources.

Professor Idornigie also decried a situation where our Supreme Court spend more than 50% of their time to handle electoral matters, even as he opined that the Independent National Electoral Commission is too small for a country like Nigeria.

The academic also condemned the crisis in Edo State House of Assembly which has seen the House having two Speakers.

He stated that state governors who have successfully completed two tenures of 8 years should give room for other people to go into the polity.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Warri branch Chairman of Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Ben Oji said the 2015 general elections will be a test case for Nigeria’s democracy.

The NBA Warri Chairman frowned at the slow pace of construction work at the High Courts in Warri and Asaba, just as he thanked Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan for fulfilling his promise by providing buses to all NBA branches in Delta State.

Delta State governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan in a remark disclosed that financial challenge is affecting projects being executed in the State.

Dr. Uduaghan assured the NBA members that the ongoing High Court projects at Asaba and Warri will be completed as scheduled in line with his Finishing Strong Drive.

Delta State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Charles Ajuyah (SAN) while speaking on the theme “ Federalism, Democracy and Leadership in Niger” declared that Delta State is not lacking personnel for the execution of projects, noting that Delta State is witnessing 25% cut in monthly federal allocation.
