Disobedience saves three kids from death as fire raze down business premises


Following disobedience from their mother’s directive, three children escaped death as valuable goods and household properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by a mysterious midnight fire that engulfed a business premises at Tuomo community in Burutu local government area of Delta State, Our Bomadi Correspondent reports.

The fire which gutted the shanty house where the 3 children were to pass the night according to an eye witness started about 2:00 am and did not spare a property as it completely destroyed the business premises, including an undisclosed amount of cash.

The source further disclosed that the fire started from inside the shop where no one was sleeping. Attempts by rescue team to put off the raging fire were overwhelmed by the billow of flames in all directions, even as owner of the shop, Mrs. Endoroere Deme-ezoukumo watched her business premises which comprises of a bedroom, provision shop and a drinking bar completely burnt down.

Narrating her agony, Mrs. Deme-ezoukumo expressed shock over the great loss and wondered how fire could gut a shop that was under lock and keys. She explained that she left for a vigil in her church that night when the incident happened.

The 42-year old mother of 5 children explained, “I went to attend an all-night church programme and I asked my 3 children to sleep the shop because I did not want them to accompany me to church. I was in the church around 2:00 am when a member of my church alerted me that my house was on fire. I quickly rushed out from the church with the safety of the children whom I asked to sleep the shop on my mind”, but “I later discovered that the children did not sleep in the shop as instructed”.

On how the children escaped the untimely death, the victim further said, “they are children, how they flout my instructions and did not sleep in the shop remains a miracle. That alone, God reduced my sorrow and made it lighter for me to bear. He is a wonderful God”.

She called on the state government, spirited individuals, especially a governorship hopeful, Elder Godsday Orubebe to come to her aid.

The cause of the fire could not be ascertained as at the time of filling this report.
