Warri South-West Legislative Arm in Delta State, has passed a resolution, calling on the Chairman of Warri South-West Local Government Area, Hon. Taiye Duke Tuoyo and relevant government agencies such as the State (Delta) Emergency Management Agency, SEMA and the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, to as a matter of urgency, mobilize and send relief materials to victims of the devastating cyclone that hit Akpakpa Ward and Aju-Daibo Communities on May 6.
Fresh Angle International can report that the resolution passed during plenary held Monday May 10, was sequel to a motion moved by the Chief Whip of the Warri South-West Legislative Arm, Hon. Godwin Toju Enegho.
While presenting the motion under matters of urgent public importance, Hon. Enegho, who represents Akpakpa Ward in the Council’s Legislative Arm, lamented the devastation caused by the whirlwind on the livelihood and property of his constituents.
The Lawmaker, called on the relevant government agencies to carryout Environmental Impact Assessment, EIA, in the affected community, with a view to providing shoreline protection as, “Ocean Surge resulting from ecological degradation and oil exploration, have chased my people to their doorstep. This development, has led to rural-urban migration as many houses in my constituency have been washed away”.

The motion raised by Hon. Enegho, was ruled upon by the Leader of Warri South-West Legislature, Rt. Hon. Emiko Odin-Etuwewe, after extensive deliberation by the House.
The Warri South-West Legislative House in a letter addressed to the Chairman of Warri South-West Local Government Area, Hon. Taiye Duke Tuoyo, stated: “We are concerned too that Akpakpa Ward and other wards in the area, are open to ecological degradation as a result of oil exploration, including tidal surge, exposing the affected communities to such horrendous disaster”, calling on: “The Executive Chairman of the of the Local Government to prevail on both the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA and the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, to carry out an Environmental Impact Assessment, EIA, on the affected communities with a view to mitigating further occurrence”.
The letter signed by the Leader of Warri South-West Legislature, Rt. Hon. Emiko Odin-Etuwewe, averred: “Concerned that if appropriate measures are not taken by way of prompt and needed relief materials to the affected communities to ameliorate their present precarious situation, government might be failing to meet the needs of the people”.
