The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, NAPPS, Uvwie Chapter on Thursday May 27, organized its maiden edition of Children's Day celebration, Our Senior Correspondent reports.

Speaking at the gathering, Chairman NAPPS, Uvwie Local Government Chapter, Mrs. Rose Obi, stated that over 30 schools across Uvwie Local Government Area in Delta State, participated in the celebration, taking part in activities such as match-past, spelling bee, dancing competition and debate.

Mrs. Obi, who's also the Proprietor of City Child School, Ekpan, noted that this year's Children’s Day was dedicated to children all over Nigeria, as a sign to advocate for their basic human rights, health as well as education, adding that basic human rights for children, education, health and safety are of extreme importance.

"We are using this day to enlighten people with the same philosophy and encourage parents and teachers to give their children wings to fly and dream the future they want to create as well as allow room for mistakes and improvements, as these qualities empower them to innovate and build a better country.

"To our lovely children, be the children our Nation is proud of and create a better tomorrow for everyone around", She admonished.

National Vice President of NAPPS, Dr. Ochuko Akpeme, appealed to the Federal, Delta and Uvwie Local Governments, to give grants and loans to private schools, in order to help them render more effective services to humanity, through teaching and learning.

Dr. Akpeme, expressed delight about the celebration, assuring that the event will be organized annually and charged children to improve on their reading culture.

The NAPPS National Vice President and Proprietor of Classical International Schools, frowned at government, saying they have not given education the expected attention.

He pointed out that everything about Nigeria problems is bordered round education and wants government across board to pay more attention to educational development.

The Treasurer, NAPPS Delta State, Mrs. Dorcas Mojisola Oguntoyinbo, who represented the State Council, admonished parents to always monitor activities of their children and wards, congratulating the leadership of NAPPS, Uvwie Chapter, for the successful Children's Day event.
