Warri Kingdom: Media controversy dies down, as Coronation of Omoba Tsola Emiko inches closer
Prince Tsola Emiko

The conventional and social media attacks as well as counter attacks that trailed the emergence of Prince Tsola Emiko as the 21st Olu of Warri-Designate, appeared to have died down, nine days to August 21, the date fixed for his crowning as the 21st Olu of Warri.

Recall that the choice of Prince Tsola Emiko as the Olu of Warri-Designate, didn’t sit well with some prominent Chiefs of Warri Kingdom, on the ground that the 1979 Edict as regards the selection processes of successor to the throne of Olu of Warri, "was not duly followed", leading to two separate litigations in Warri and Asaba Courts.

The controversy escalated about two weeks ago when reports circulated in sections of the Media (including Leadership Newspaper) and some social media handles, that Prince Oyowoli Gbesimi Emiko, son of the transited 20th Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli, had also commenced his seclusion and other traditional rites at an undisclosed location, in preparation for his coronation. His pictures, decked in Idaniken attire, appeared in the public domain.

The Itsekiri National Youths Council, INYC through its National President, Comrade Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, immediately responded to pictures of Prince Oyowoli Emiko in Idaniken attire, declaring him persona non grata in Warri Kingdom, during a world press conference organized in Warri, urging him to publicly disclose the detail of the address, “where he is currently doing the seclusion (Idaniken rights) and was proclaimed Ogiame”.

Fresh Angle International however understands that the initial Media controversy surrounding the imminent crowning of Omoba Tsola Emiko as the Warri Monarch, may have simmered down, as a result of a reconciliation committee purportedly set up to resolve the differences among the contending parties and possibly withdraw the litigations in court. The substantive hearings of both cases are billed to commence late September and October, after couple of adjournments.

Meanwhile, preparations for the August 21 Coronation of Omoba Tsola Emiko, are in top gear as upscaling of the aesthetics of Palaces of the Olu of Warri in Warri and Ode-Itsekiri, was ongoing as at the time of this report, with the Itsekiri Nation traditional colours of White and Red, shining brightly in strategic locations (in fabric designs and paintings).
