The Senator representing Delta North in the National Assembly, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has expressed deep shock over the death of General Patrick Aziza (Rtd.) President –General of Urhobo Progress Union, UPU.
Senator Okowa, who said he received the news of the demise of the revered elder statesman with great shock, noted that the Urhobo Nation, Delta State and indeed Nigeria, have lost one of the finest and most dedicated leaders.
Senator Okowa, whose condolence message was contained in a statement issued in Asaba by his media aide, Jonathan Onwuka, recalled the immense contributions of late General Aziza to the stability, growth and development of Nigeria.
He noted that as the first Governor of Kebbi State and as Minister of Communications as well as Minister of Commerce and Industry, he worked tirelessly to impact positively on the nation, adding that he left lasting legacies of sustainable development.
While describing the late Army General as a consummate and dedicated soldier, he noted that his headship of several military commands was remarkable in every sense, culminating in his being appointed as ECOMOG Field Commander in Liberia in the heat of the country’s internal crisis.
Senator Okowa also praised the dexterity with which the late General Aziza piloted the affairs of the Urhobo Progress Union, the apex Urhobo Socio-Cultural Organization, giving the group the required focused leadership.
While expressing his heart-felt condolence to the Aziza family, Urhobo Nation, Delta State and Nigeria, Senator Okowa prayed for the repose of the soul of the late General Aziza.
