Hon. Efe Afe

Report sent to Fresh Angle International this afternoon, Thursday December 16 by a Warri based veteran journalist, who prefers anonymity, has revealed that the member Representing Okpe, Sapele and Uvwie Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Efe Afe, sponsored the motion, calling on the expansion of facilities at the Osubi–Warri Airport, with a view to accommodate bigger aircraft, that would increase the economic activities of Warri.

In his lead debate, to the adoption of a motion, Hon. Afe observed that the Osubi–Warri Airport, was an important facility that was privately owned, operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited and is located at Osubi Community in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State.

The Federal lawmaker, stressed that the airport was built to ease air movements and attract commercial activities to enhance the economic development of the area.

He expressed worries that the Osubi–Warri Airport, operated for several years until its operators became incapable of running it, which led to termination of the contract in February 2020 by the Management of the Civil Aviation Authority.

Hon. Afe, recalled that the Osubi–Warri Airstrip, was reopened for operations in February 2021, when the House passed a resolution that the Ministry of Aviation should ensure its reopening.

While thanking the Federal Government for the approval of the re-opening of the Osubi–Warri Airport for operations in response to the call and plight of the people, Hon. Afe, said the expansion of the runway will accommodate bigger aircraft, which will in turn, boost the commercial activities in the oil-rich areas, considering the volume of passengers that ply the Lagos-Warri-Abuja routes, as the present passenger Aircraft is not sufficient.

Hon. Afe, appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari, Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the Minister of Aviation, the Management of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN for the re-opening of the Osubi–Warri Airport

The House urged the Federal Ministry of Aviation and other relevant Agencies to commence the expansion of the facilities at the Airport, to accommodate bigger aircraft that will increase the economic activities of Warri and its environs and mandated its Committee on Aviation to ensure compliance.
