An eye-witness, Blessing Olowofoyekun, who is elder brother to 28-year old Sapele based electrician, Femi Olowofoyekun, who was killed few minutes past 1.00am Wednesday March 16 in Sapele, Delta State, told Fresh Angle International in an exclusive telephone interview this morning, Thursday March 17, how his younger brother (Femi) was shot dead.
According to Blessing Olowofoyekun, a vigilante in Sapele by the name Sylvester Debi, who had on a couple of occasions, threatened to kill his younger brother, Femi Olowofoyekun, was responsible for the brutal murder of the 28-year old Femi, in the wee hours of yesterday, Wednesday March 16, during a traditional festival organized by his (Blessing’s) aunty, Gina Okotie at Ofotokun in Oguanja, Sapele.
Femi Olowofeyekun, before he was killed
Blessing told This Newspaper that the said vigilante, Sylvester Debi, who had argument with some persons at the festival, sighted Femi Olowofeyekun, coming down from the height of one of the canopies, after installing electricity. He (Sylvester) purportedly took a Pump-action gun from one of his boys (another vigilante) and shot on the left eye of the unsuspecting Femi Olowofeyekun, killing him on the spot.
The suspect, Sylvester Debi
The alleged cruel action of Sylvester, reportedly made the crowd at the festival venue, to scamper for safety and host of the festival, Gina Okotie, immediately collapsed, before her consciousness was restored later and she was asked to report at Sapele Main Police Station, near Sapele Athletic Club to give her statement, only for her to be detained by the Police Officers on duty at the station. The action of the Police Officers, enraged family members of the deceased, Femi Olowofoyekun and Gina Okotie, who viewed the detention of Gina Okotie as oppressive and without conscience. It was the angry reaction of Femi’s family members that made the Police Officers at the station, to release Gina.
Blessing Olowofoyekun, also explained that when he got to the Sapele Main Police Station to incident the case after Femi was killed, he saw the suspect, Sylvester Debi, trying to allegedly link the death of Femi Olowofoyekun to cult clash. According to Blessing, he told the Police Officers, how Sylvester Debi allegedly killed his younger brother, Femi and he (Sylvester) was immediately arrested and detained at the Police Station.
As at the time of this report, Blessing Olowofoyekun, raised alarm of possible plot by some Police Officers to change the narrative, in a bid to give Sylvester Debi a safe landing, a move, he vowed, would be legally resisted by his family and pursue to a logical conclusion, just as he said that the remains of his brother (Femi) has been deposited at Sapele General Hospital morgue.
