The Niger Delta Itsekiri Oil Producing Communities, NDIOPC, say they are ready to shutdown Chevron’s operations in Abiteye, Olero and Dibi Fields, over non-implementation of their demands.
While referring to their letter dated December 13, 2021, wherein they handed down a 41-day ultimatum to the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited, the group stated: “CNL should not be surprise, if we go ahead to shut-down their operations, it is not a mere threat."
Recall that their demands as enunciated in the ultimatum include; provision of electricity, empowerment and employment of indigenes of the host communities, provision of healthcare facilities, increment of scholarship and review of community workers’ salaries.
In a statement made available to the media, Friday March 18, the group noted that they would have executed their treat before now, but delayed as a result of the intervention of a prominent Itsekiri leader, who requested for extra one-week, to enable him broker peace with the management of the oil and gas major.
The statement, which was signed by Raymond Aderojor, Eyeolusan Arubi, Alfred Jemine (a.k.a Shagari), Jerry Ogedegbe, Taiye Alakowe, Austin Dorsu, Paul Demeyin and Elvis Omamogho, disclosed that security and other critical agencies such as the Police, DSS, Nigeria Army, Koko, DPR, National Assembly and the Human Rights Commission, have been notified of their impending action.
NDIOPC, urged the management of CNL to implement their demands, so as to guarantee its continuous peaceful operations in Abiteye, Olero and Dibi Fields.
