Ijawcommunities commend Chevron for youths training

Members of Gbaramatu/Egbema Host Communities Welders and Fitters, ESCRAVOS have commended Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL for training their youths, even as they appealed to CNL to mandate Gramem Nigeria Limited to employ their welders and fitters in the ongoing fabrication job which has so far engaged no fewer than 84welders.
Theappeal was contained in a request forwarded to the General Manager,Policy, Government and Public Affairs, PGPA of CNL. The requestwhich was signed by George Timiyan, Chairman,Ekpetipu Mamukemi, Secretary and Siko Eyenmi, PRO also lauded CNLfor the training which commenced in February 2010 and ended March 2012.
TheGbaramatu/Egbema Host Communities Welders and Fitters stated that the 220 youths drawn from Ijaw, Itsekiri, Ilaje andUrhobo who were trained in measurements and dimensions,Types and sizes of plates, pipe and electrodes, cutting and usage of machines, oxygen and Acetylene burning sets, Argon weld, plate pipe and Arc welding arenow well equipped for the task ahead in the oil and gas industry.
Their letter read thus; “ With immense joy, we, members of Gbaramatu/Egbema Host Communities Welders and Fitters, Escravos write to appreciate you for your wisdom in training our youths in this your massive endorsement inthe effort to improve on how to realize great achievements.They added, “We are happy to note that Chevron Nigeria Limited/Southern Gas Constructorslimited, SGC have provided the needed support and encouragement to the traineeswho successfully completed the program. It is important to note that a goodnumber of these youths have acquired the relevant welding skills that wouldenable them become self employed or competent for employment opportunities.”
Theyfurther lauded the company for engaging the youths positively instead ofallowing them use their God given strength and ability for unprofitable things suchas restiveness, avoidable crisis, looting and other social vices to make quickmoney.
They also appealed to Chevron Management thatthe traineesand other qualified welders should be included in the ongoing fabrication job atGramem and Niger Dock in Lagos, since what they are fabricating is coming toEscravos, Dibi, Otunana, Abiteye, Olero and Makaruba and the deep wateroffshore.”
