A movie directed by Kunle Afolayan, “October 1” has emerged Overall Best Movie 2014 in this year’s African Movie Viewers’ Choice Award in collaboration with Amstel Malta, held at Lagos, Fresh Angle International gathered.
The award which was hosted by Ik Osakioduwa of Big Brother and Vimbai Mutinhiri, had numerous winners emerging in various categories and the most of the winners belonging to “October 1” set.
Among the categories, the winner of the Best Act Director is Pat Nebo, a crew of October 1. The Best TV Series is Georgia Arnold of“Shuga”. The Best Make-up Artist was Lola Maja, the make-up artist on Sacred set.
The Best New Media Online Video is Hard Time, directed by Imo Omore. The Best Short Film is “Oblivious” which was directed by Ekene Mekwule. The Best Drama Writer is Tunde Babalola for “October 1” and he also won the Best Comedy Writer.
The Best Lighting Designer is Lanre Omofaiye who is also member of the crew of “October 1”. Best Cinematographer went to Stanley Ohikuarhe, Best Sound Editoris Kulanen Ikyo, Best Video Editor is Victoria Akujobi, Best Costume Designer are Deola Segoe and Obijie Oru both “October 1” crew.
The Best Indigenous Language Swahili Movie is Veve, Zarika’s movie. In the Hausa category, “Bincike” won. Fatai Balogun’s Yoruba comedy film, “Iya Alalake” clinched the award, while Obi Omeloye’s “Onye Eze” (The Messenger) won in the Igbo category.
It was also gathered that“The Gift of the Nile”, produced Yvonne Bassey wonthe Best Documentary for 2014. The Best Supporting Actor is Blossom Chukwujekwu, while in the female category, Linda Ejiofor clinched that award.
In the comedy category, the Best Actor was Femi Jacob of The Meeting. While Best Actress was Rita Dominic of same movie and the Best Comedy Movie was “The Meeting” co-produced by Mildred Okwo and Rita Dominic.
The Trail Blazer Award went to CJ Obasi and the New Era Award was won by Ayo Makunde aka AY for “30 Days in Atlanta”. Industry Merit Award was awarded to late Amaka Igwe which was received by Charles Igwe.
The Best Movie Drama is “A Place is the Stars” produced by Steve Gukas. For the Best Male in a Drama, the award was presented to OC Ukeje, Best Female in a Drama, Kehinde Bankole and the Best Director was Kunle Afolayan the director of “October 1”.
Our Correspondent reports that those present at the award ceremony include Olu Jacobs, Joke Sylva, Richard Mofe Damijo, Fidelis Duker, Desmond Elliot, Kate Henshaw Nuttal, Mercy Johnson, Gideon Okeke, Nonso Diobi, Mike Ozoronye, Uti Nwachukwu, Genevieve Nnaji, Funke Akindele, Yemi Black and Chinedu Ikedieze.
