Following the overnight attack of Kpokpo/Madangho by Ijaw youths from Gbaramatu in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State, the people of Kpokpo, an Ugborodo community in Escravos have given a two-week ultimatum to the Federal and Delta State Governments, the NNPC as well as other stakeholders to address the neglect of the community in the EPZ cum Delta Gas Industrial City or face litigation capable of stopping the project.
Addressing Newsmen today in Warri, Delta State, head of Kpokpo Community (Olare-Aja), Prince George Kolo-Fregene, who spoke through the Deputy Olare-Aja, Pa. Monday Fregene decried the neglect of the community in the $16 billion project and condemned what he described as “another cycle of violence on our brothers from Madangho Community (referring to the overnight attack) “calling on the government to intervene timeously to prevent any reprisal”.
According to him, any transaction regarding the community land “must be channeled through the community head,” and not any individual or group laying claim to the community land.
The Kpokpo people through their head called on the Federal Government, “especially the incoming administration of General Buhari to ensure that the lawlessness that has characterized the present administration reflected in the whimsical and capricious trespass, accumulation of arms and destruction of lives and properties is ruthlessly dealt with”.
Meanwhile, Fresh Angle International can report that the tension between the Gbaramatu Ijaws and their Ugborodo Itsekiri neigbours in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State that escalated overnight has been brought under control following the intervention of prominent leaders of both communities as well as the Delta State Government.
