Chairman, House Committee on Peace and Security in thelast Warri South local government council legislative Arm, Hon. KingsleyTenumah has debunked media reports credited to the immediate past Warri Southlocal government Chairman, Hon. Mofe Edema, who claimed to have left overeighty million naira in the coffers of the council at the expiration of his3-year mandate.
According to the ex lawmaker who spoke to FreshAngle in an exclusive chat at his Warri residence, the money referredto by the ex council boss popularlycalled Man of God by his admirers belong to the traditional ruler in WarriSouth local government. “It is not too pleasant for the immediate past chairmanto give a news that is not correct. The local government had no 10kobo as atthe time we were leaving office. The 80million naira belongs to the traditionalruler in Warri South local government, it is from the federal to the localgovernment to keep in trust for the traditional institution”. He added, “we metsome of the money, it is as a result of the legality of the other twotraditional rulers in Warri, which is a subject of litigation that the money iskept. The council can’t spend a kobo in that money”. Hon. Tenumah popularlyknown as Afere, sought to know whypolitical office holders in the council weren’t paid their April salary andimprest till June when the council Head of Personnel Management took office ifthe said amount was accessible.
On the reported differences between Hon. Mofe Edema andPDP leadership in the area, the lawmaker responded, “he may have differenceswith an individual, but not the entire leadership”.
While acknowledging that the ex council boss did well to merit a second term, Hon. Tenumahstressed that the electorate will determine his fate, just as he noted thatHon. Edema “will face primary”.
