Bank officials, police escort arrested for driving recklessly against traffic-Delta CP

Delta State Commissioner of Police, Alkali Baba Usman has said that the Policemen and bank officials involved in driving recklessly against traffic on Monday at Udu road, near Warri and forcing a heavy duty vehicle running into a pregnant woman before crashing into the median of the express road has been arrested.

The pregnant woman whose two legs were broken on the spot and whose identity could not be ascertained was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital before being taken to the Delta state University teaching Hospital, Delsuth, Oghara for adequate medical attention. Her state of health cannot be also ascertained as at press time, but feelers from eyewitness account said given the massive loss of blood, she might not make it.

The CP made this revelation Tuesday at the Police Area Command Headquarters, Warri, Delta State during a press briefing, saying that “it is an offence for anybody to drive against traffic. The bank officials, the policemen involved have been arrested and they would be charged appropriately”.

The CP who paraded 35 alleged cultists and 4 robbers also stated that 3 armed robbers/kidnappers were seriously wounded during a raid in their hideout, also revealed that items recovered from the hoodlums include 11 cartridges, 2 buses, one polo shirt with the inscription “N.B.M” (Noe Black Movement), one Aye Confraternity vest, a bangle, a cap with cowries and 3 Aye Confraternity black berets, saying that the alleged cultists belong to both the Aye and Blackaxe cults.

Commissioner Alkali Usman who advised youths to shun cultism and embrace more meaningful endeavours appealed to well meaning residents of Warri and Delta State to support the police and other security agencies with useful and timely information on criminals and their activities, noting that such collaboration are necessary instrument for effective control of crime in the society.

He said no effort would be spared to make Warri and the entire State safe for all, saying that he wants all Deltans to go to sleep with both eyes closed as more patrol vans have been deployed to Warri to give the area a 24-hour security and effective coverage as they have put measures in place to curb the nefarious activities of criminal elements in our midst.
