Investigation: Why conventional markets face low patronage in Warri

The emergence of modern shopping centres in the Oil City of Warri and Effurun is set to have negative toll on traders in conventional markets in Warri such as Igbudu, Main and Pessu, Fresh Angle International investigation reveals.

Some residents of the twin cities of Warri and Effurun who bare their thoughts to Our Correspondent noted that shopping centres like Gemstone, Tivo and Shoprite offer customers better sanitary environment, parking lot, original and fresh products/consumables, security and reasonable prices compared to regular markets in the cities which has untidy environment, insecurity, lack of parking space for cars as well as undue extortion from community youths in the name of development levy.

The regular markets over the years have become overcrowded and overtaken by hip of refuse, with the local government authorities seemingly overwhelmed by the uncontrollable waste and illegal allocation of shops as well as spaces for display of goods by the traders.
