Delta state government has assured members of the state chapter of Association of Coastal and Waterways Communities of Nigeria, ACWCN that it will construct more than 20 more jetties next year, to boost riverine transportation.
Fresh Angle International can report that the State Commissioner for Transport, Chief Mike Okah, gave the assurance at Asaba Wednesday October 5, when he played host to the leadership of Delta state chapter of Association of Coastal and Waterways Communities of Nigeria, ACWCN.
“We don't need plane, we need jetties that we will use to bring our food this way, by the grace of God, in next year's project, if we have enough money, we will have more than 20 jetties”, the Commissioner stated.
Earlier in his address, the Chairman, Delta State Chapter of Association of Coastal and Waterways Communities of Nigeria, Engr. (Dcn) Tuoyo Woligho, explained: “The idea for a platform or an Association for the Coastal and Waterways Communities in Nigeria, was conceived in the year 2019, by some credible and passionate indigenes of the Area who felt the pains of long time exploitation, degradation and total neglect of these areas by successive government and their agencies and corporate organizations operating in these areas.
“The sole purpose for this initiative is to Represent, Protect and Defend the interest of the communities, also to promote sustainable peace, clean environment and improve condition of living in the Coastal and Waterways Communities in Nigeria, through peaceful dialogue and consultations with relevant authorities.

“Our activities are down to the grass root through balanced community representation.
“The Association is registered with a duly constituted board of Trustees with the Cooperate Affairs Commission of Nigeria, and as a critical stake holder in the Coastal and Waterways Communities it is very important we come to present and introduce this body to you, for your recognition and to parley with your office.

Also Sir, we want to appreciate and commend the Ministry of Transport for her innovative ideas that have revamped the state transportation business. Please continue with your good work.
“We want to solicit for your cooperation and request for a good working relationship with your Ministry, especially in the areas of; Establishment of Marine transportation scheme, that will serve the coastal and waterways communities for ease of movement of goods and services, clearing of the waterways regularly for safe navigation and provision of safety gadgets for personel using marine transport".
