Journalists in the state have been reminded on the need to uphold professional ethics of the job and exhibit professionalism in the reportage of news and other media information consumed by the public.

This was contained in a statement made by the Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists Delta Broadcasting Service DBS Warri Chapel Comrade Daniel Oji while fielding questions from newsmen on his one year journey of steering the affairs of the union maintained that Journalists should live above board and focus on objective journalism in favour of sensational journalism.

While reminding journalists that the profession is a veritable tool for the promotion of democracy and enthronement of justice in the society, the NUJ boss advised Journalists not to intentionally omit fact and information as this, according to him is capable of causing chaos in the polity just as he insisted that Journalists should always cross-check their facts before going to the press.

Highlighting the achievements of his administration in the last one year as chairman of the union, Oji said he was grateful to God and the support had received from staff, which he said enabled him purchase for the Union a Sienna bus, making motor-able the access road to the NUJ staff canteen, industrial and professional harmony, amongst others, even as he promised improved welfare package.

The labour leader used the medium to appeal to workers of DBS for their continued support in order to move the union forward. He however lamented paucity of funds adding that check off dues which is the only source of fund is insufficient to cater for the welfare of staff in the chapel.

Meanwhile the General Manager of Delta Broadcasting Service, Warri, Mr. Tunde Omonode at the commissioning of the NUJ bus commended the chairman for purchasing the Sienna Bus noting that the vehicle will facilitate the union's activities and also help the station in gathering news. He urged the exco members to remain united so as to attract more development to the union.
