FUPRE NOT PREPARED FOR PEACE, NIMI AMANGE IS A DICTATOR WHO HAS NO INGREDIENT TO MAKE PEACE

His Excellency,

Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa,

Governor of Delta State,

Government House,

Asaba

Your Excellency,

The people of Ugbomro Community on whose land the Federal University of Petroleum Ugbomro was built outrightly condemn and reject all conditions given by the Chairman Governing Council, former Senator Nimi Amange during a meeting with the Unuevworo of Uvwie High Chief (Dr.) Ambrose Olughor (JP) and other community leaders held at University chambers two days ago. Senator Nimi Amange who spoke authoritatively said: “I will go to Abuja and close the school down if you people continue to insist on your demands and for six months, the workers will continue to receive their salary”, “The governor of Delta State has no power to tell me what to do in the school”, “The community voluntarily gave the land to the Federal Government and whatever they see, they should take it like that”, “My community, Nembe in Bayelsa State has no federal presence, so, the community should count itself lucky for this and has no right to make demands”, “the federal government did not force you people to give her the land”, “go and block governor’s office, he is the one to give you road, what are they doing in their office?”

By the above utterances, he rejected all our requests which include a memorandum of understanding, employment, re-instatement of our sons whose appointments were terminated for no just reason, the construction and rehabilitation of the only Ugbomro road through which the University was built that was completely washed away while conveying materials and equipment to and fro the site and giving the position of the community liaison officer to a son of the community rather than the imposition of one Revd. Fr. Abaka  Oghenejode who is  representing the Umogun’s interest. Senator Amange should be told that, despite the fact that we voluntarily gave our land to the Federal Government for the purpose of the University, the land remains ours and Senator Amange cannot take our land to his Ijaw community. Senator Amange should be told that the community belongs to us and should give us our right if total peace must return because we, the people of Ugbomro gave out our land for the purpose of development and must not become a curse but blessing.

We also use this medium to advise the Umogun, Abe I to stay clear from all issues involving the University and the Ugbomro people because the land does not belong to him, we are not soliciting his assistance, we are also not against the institution paying homage to his palace, he must stop usurping the rights of the Ugbomro people as the host community. while  the part of the VC, he  is advised to shift his focus from the palace and give the Ugbomro people the recognition which we deserve as the host community or else peace will continue to elude the institution. We advise the governing council to change its poor, ugly and cold attitude towards Ugbomro people in the name of peace, justice and equity.

Your Excellency, we are of the candid opinion that unless the University authority agrees to our humble demands which of course our right, there shall be no peace hence we shall be most grateful if you will use your good office to convey a meeting where our people and the University will be represented to discuss the way forward. We want a situation where your Excellency will be the umpire, Senator Amange lacks the ingredients of peace and we believe that, it is only when the state is involved that there will be peace. Because as we speak, the school is over staffed with his people who are part of his corrupt practices in the school that makes it not to grow. We however commend the maturity displayed by Nigeria Army who were called to protect the school during the mild protest and we urge them to do more in future occurrences while we condemn in its entirety the attitude of the area commander, Warri on the threat to arrest the protesting women who have not broken any law known to our country whereas the women were only protesting against the bad policy of the school management.

While we are waiting to hear from you as soon as possible, we have advised our subjects to embrace peace and avoid anything capable of igniting the already charged atmosphere, Ugbomro people are lovers of peace who will do nothing to jeopardize the peace of the area. But it is pertinent to point that, going by some of the actions and utterances of the pro-chancellor of the University over these issues, he is out to truncate the good administration of President Muhammadu Buhari and the governor Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, he is a stooge in the wheel of progress.

Thank you and God bless

Yours faithfully
