Radical Itsekiri socio-political pressure group, Itsekiri Consolidated Movement, ICM, has strongly criticized the membership of the newly remodeled Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC Board, saying the manner the portfolio was allotted by the state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa is “indicative of an institution programmed to fail”.
The ICM in a statement signed by its President, Franklin Metsese and made available to newsmen in Warri, lambasted the choice of Hon. Ocho Chris Ocho , a graduate of Agriculture as Executive Director of Projects, instead of appointing Engr. Oritsetimeyin Victor Wood, a seasoned Engineer for that position.
According to the Itsekiri group, giving the Executive Director of Administration portfolio to Engr. Oritsetimeyin Victor Wood, amounts to putting a square peg in a round hole, considering Engr. Wood’s pedigree and vast experience as professional in the oil and gas industry.
The statement averred that Governor Okowa’s appointments in the board, particularly as it affects the Itsekiri ethnic Nationality “ speaks of suspicion and one targeted at pacifying Itsekiris with positions that seems good, but truly ceremonious and mockery of the sensibility of Itsekiri people”.
The ICM noted that the three slots given to Itsekiri Nation by Governor Okowa in the DESOPADEC board will not deter the Itsekiri Nation from going to court to seek interpretation on the proper utilization of the 13% derivation money.
