Despite speculations that the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, has released money to the leadership of Itsekiri Regional Development Committee, IRDC to pay its indigenous contractors for jobs executed, the contractors under the umbrella of Forum Of IRDC Contractors, have written Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, accusing the company of deliberately frustrating their payment.
According to the aggrieved contractors, management of the oil and gas major as at Thursday December 15, introduced " flimsy excuses, including bottlenecks on arrangement of cheques, to forestall our payment, which have been due for the past three months."
A leading figure among the contractors' forum, Comrade Odemi Esinjolomi, told newsmen yesterday in Warri: "A number of us, are facing life threatening health challenges as a result of constant harassment from suppliers and creditors, hence we are calling on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III to save our soul. The loans we took from black market and in some cases, banks to execute the projects, are gathering huge interests by the day."
" We are also appealing to other well - meaning Itsekiri community and political leaders to prevail on Chevron Nigeria Limited, to allow IRDC leadership immediately pay our money, to avert unrest, because we are getting increasingly frustrated by the day", Esinjolomi warned.
Recall that the affected Itsekiri RDC contractors, had within the last three months, stormed IRDC Office in Warri on few occasions, protesting their non - payment and threatening to obstruct the operations of Chevron Nigeria Limited in their communities.
