We have read the statement credited to our revered elder statesman, Chief Broderick Bozimo, a member of the PDP, who, in a PDP meeting, was quoted to have said that the laws of Delta State have endorsed Honourable Sheriffthe PDP gubernatorial candidate, as the preferred choice of the Ijaws, amidst other gubernatorial candidates.
We had thought that by now Chief Broderick
Bozimo would have come out to say that he was misquoted. However, it is now clear to us that the statement was actually made by him, as we have seen a Facebook report of how he led a few Iiaw members of the PDP to our revered law traditional rulers to canvas for the traditional rulers to support the gubernatorial aspiration of Hon. Sheriff Oborewvori of the PDP. It is instructive to note that Hon. Sheriff Oborewvori did not deem it fit or appropriate to personally visit our traditional rulers, but he had to send emissaries to them. What an insult on our traditional rulers? It is a matter of regret that the highly respected Chief Broderick Bozimo will allow himself to become a spokesperson for the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Sheriff Oborewvori. As Ijaw APC stakeholders in Delta State, we want to categorically state that Chief Broderick Bozimo is on his own. He is NOT COMPETENT to speak for the generality of the Ijaws of Delta State, as far as the choice of who to support as governor come 2023.How on earth will Chief Broderick Bozimo, in his wildest imagination, suggest, or think that the Ijaws of Delta State, with their level of education and political exposure, would prefer Hon. Sheriff Oborewvori, who boasts that his only qualification to be governor of Delta State is street credibility?
How does Chief Broderick Bozimo think that the Ijaws of Delta State will prefer a man with a doubtful background, and who by his own showing, is full of contradictions as to his real names, date of birth, schools attended etcetera? We do not want to believe that Chief Broderick Bozimo has got himself deluded by the fact that his son is appointed by Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of the State. We recall, with so much pain, that the same Chief Broderick Bozimo, who is aware of the political dynamics of the zoning in Delta State, misled some worthy sons of Ijaw land into contesting the gubernatorial primaries of the PDP against all odds. To set the records straight, we have taken our time to look into the PDP administration in Delta State, and it has become obvious to us that the PDP does not mean well for the Ijaws of Delta State. The present administration of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has been the most insensitive to the Ijaws of Delta State. There is no state government project in the whole of Ijaw land that is worth N500m captured in any budget, not to talk of being executed. The Ayakromo bridge has been abandoned. Dr. Ifeany1 Okowa lied to the world that he had completed the Patani/Toru Angiama/Uduophori road, whereas his administration has not committed any kobo to the project.
Whereas, we concede the fact that Chief Broderick
Bozimo and his co-travelers are free to have a preferred governorship candidate, or any aspirant to other political offices, we however state that they cannot choose a governorship candidate for the Ijaws of Delta State.
The Ijaw nation is blessed with a leader and elder statesman in the person of Chief Dr. Edwin Clark. When Senator Ovie Omo Agege visited him to ask for his blessings, Chief E. K. Clark spoke the minds of the Ijaws. He gave his support and prayers to Senator Ovie Omo Agege as the next governor of Delta State. He spoke for the Ijaws, and that is the position. We, the Ijaw members of the APC, have resolved to stand by, support, and mobilise across the state for His Excellency, Senator Ovie Omo Agege, the Deputy President of the Senate and governorship candidate of the APC, to make sure that he wins to become the governor of Delta State come 2023. In doing so, we have taken note of his track record of performance and achievements as Deputy Senate President. We have also resolved to stand and support all the candidates of the APC contesting for the state House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and President.
