The Minister of Environment, Mrs. Amina Mohammed on Friday February 19 visited the site of the oil spill that occurred February 13 at Forcados Terminal in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.
The 48 inches oil pipeline which is owned by the Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC is among the major crude lines carrying crude to Forcados Terminal.
Speaking to Newsmen shortly after the visit, the Minister enjoined oil companies to live up to their responsibility by taking good care of people of their host communities, promising that the federal government is doing everything possible to fix the damaged pipeline. She described the spill as a disaster to the economy of the country.
Our Senior Correspondent reports that the Delta State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. John Nani explained that the state government is doing everything possible to address the situation.
Others who accompanied the Minister to the spill site include the Minister of State, Environment, Ibrahim Jibril Usman and the Permanent Secretary, Delta State Ministry of Environment.
