Protesting female traders from Main (Dore) and other adjourning markets in Warri, early Friday February 3, stormed First and Union Banks, along Warri/Sapele Road, near NNS Delta in Warri, criticizing the Federal Government as regards cash swap from old to new naira notes and accusing commercial banks of hoarding the new naira notes.
Our Principal Correspondent reports that the protesting women, who were apparently angry over inability to access the redesigned naira notes, claimed that the federal government deceived them to deposit their old naira notes, yet they are unable to access the new currency.
The aggrieved traders, who carried placards with inscriptions such as “No money, no vote”, said they have been finding it difficult to sell their goods in their various shops, as a result scarcity of the new naira notes in Warri.
They vowed to shut down Warri, if the new naira notes are not dispensed to the public in the nearest hours and days.
