69, 464 babies immunized against polio this year in Uvwie- Council HOD

The Head of Primary Health Care Department, Uvwie Local Government Council, Dr. Eric Jarikre says a total of 69, 464 children between 0-59 months have been vaccinated against polio this year in Uvwie Local Government Area.

Dr. Eric Jarikre who made the disclosure in an exclusive chat with Our Correspondent Tuesday March 8 at the Uvwie Council Secretariat, explained that the level of achievement during the just concluded immunization exercise exceeded projected target of 52, 473 kids.      

While commending polio partners' UNICEF and W.H.O for providing the needed support in the quest at preventing polio, Dr. Jarikre admonished parents on the need to be health conscious and ensure that their environment is free from contamination resulting from poor sanitary and sewage disposal attitude.       

He noted that during rainy season, there is a tendency of feacol oral polio transmission as a result of children contaminating their hands through the soil in areas where the use of pit latrine and open septic tank toilets are used.
