Chief Ayirimi Emami flags off campaign against pipeline vandalism, illegal oil bunkering

Background

Chief Ayirimi Emami has been in the struggle and campaign for better deal for indigenous people of the Niger Delta with the intent of ensuring they have their lawful stake in the oil and gas industry.

The struggle has in the past made him stepped on powerful toes, especially in the campaign to ensure that fairness, equity, justice and local content is strictly adhered to in the sale or allocation of Oil Mining Leases, OMLs within the Niger Delta region.

However, corruption, political patronage and sharp practices had in the past bedevilled the allocation or sale of the OMLs.

The recent sale of OMLs 52, 53 and 55 by Chevron Nigeria Limited to Seplat Petroleum Development Company Limited which was the lowest bidder as against Britannia-U Limited, reported to have presented the highest and most professional bid, is clearly a continuation of the past injustices and corruption in the oil and gas industry which the federal government needs to address .

This is one area of corruption the President Muhammadu Buhari administration must tackle as part of the renewed strategy to fight pipeline vandalism, crude oil theft, sea piracy and other negative vices killing our economy. It is on this premise that my campaign is anchored on.

I’m deeply worried about the state of vandalism of the Nation’s oil and gas pipelines, electricity lines as well as illegal oil bunkering and sea piracy.

These criminality and social ills are no doubt having negative toll on our fragile economy, built solely over the years on crude oil and gas.

My Strategy

I must first commend President Muhammadu Buhari for his recent visit to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea to jaw-jaw with his counterpart over insecurity challenges in the Niger Delta. Mr. President has often shown that his diplomatic shuttles amid pockets of criticisms are spot-on, result oriented and genuinely geared towards resuscitating our economy.

In-line with the President Muhammadu Buhari APC led administration’s resolve to tackle the afore-stated economic sabotage, I’m strategizing with like-minds on the best approaches to confront the challenges headlong. Some of the strategies include but not limited to the following:

*Plans to organize sensitizationseminars /workshops across the length and breadth of the country, particularly the Niger Delta Geopolitical Zone.

*Carrying out print, electronic, online and social media campaigns on the grave economic implication of tampering with our National Resources and assets for selfish gains.

*Launching a community -to -community campaign against the evils of pipeline vandalism, crude oil theft and illegal bunkering with emphases on the negative implication on our economy.

*Offering intelligence to security agencies saddled with the responsibility of protecting our crude oil and gas pipelines as well as electricity lines.

Why The Campaign Has Become Imperative

*The recent attack on Forcados Terminal in Burutu Local Government Area, Delta State by suspected militants which affected Nigeria’s export of oil and gas as well as drastic drop in electricity generation.

*Blasts of the Escravos Gas and Crude oil Pipelines in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State, which has pose a major challenge on the movement of refined products from Warri to Benin, Benin to Ore and other parts of the country, thus draining the Nation’s economy.

*Recurrent Vandalism of power (electricity high tension) lines with its attendant negative socio-economic implications.

*The need to stop wasting our scarce resources on repairs of pipelines, instead of channelling same for infrastructure expansion and diversification.

* The realization that public enlightenment and local intelligence gathering are vital elements needed by the federal government to revitalize our troubled economy.

*The environmental pollution and degradation being experienced by people of the host and impacted communities, which often negatively affect the people’s health as well as their agro-allied means of livelihood.

Goal

To Build a National Awareness Consciousness on the Imperative of Protecting and Safeguarding Valuable National Assets, so as to provide the needed platform for genuine economic, social and infrastructural growth.
