Warri: Merogun, Opuoru, to challenge losses at the Tribunal

Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC for Warri South Constituency I, Dr. Michael Eyituoyo Merogun and his Peoples Democratic Party counterpart for Warri South Constituency II, Hon. Matthew Poko Opuoru, are set to challenge their electoral losses at the Tribunal, Fresh Angle International, has learnt.

According to results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the incumbent member representing Warri South Constituency I in Delta State House of Assembly and PDP candidate for the just concluded House of Assembly poll, Dr. Augustine Uroye, reportedly garnered 10,855 votes to defeat Dr. Merogun, who polled 4,773 votes, while PDP candidate for Warri South Constituency II/incumbent lawmaker representing the constituency, Hon. Matthew Poko Opuoru, lost to Chief Benson Obire of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Dr. Merogun, who confirmed his desire to head to the Tribunal in a telephone chat with This Newspaper this afternoon, earlier stated in his social media post:  “I wish to use this medium to express my deepest gratitude to my entire team and the good people of Warri South Constituency 1 which not only believed, supported and voted for me, but sacrificed their precious time and safety braving the harsh elements of the weather and unforseen natural and security risks to campaign with me throughout the various nooks and crannies, crisscrossing the lands and seas of our beloved Constituency - You are the TRUE HEROES.

“May I remind us all that collectively, we fought a good and victorious fight to change the narrative and usher in visionary, purposeful and prosperous leadership in our Constituency thereby ‘Lighting Up Warri’ as our campaign slogan posits.

“Unfortunately, our mandate was stolen in a clear broad day light robbery with the election process fraught with irregularities and inconsistencies by the fretting opposition that was staring an impending defeat in their faces. The message is very clear and unambiguous - the good people of Warri South Constituency 1 are tired of rudderless and vision-less leadership that brings nothing but poverty, frustration, stagnation and hopelessness thereby making their voices heard at the Ballot Box. The good news is weeping may remain for a night, but joy comes in the morning. Do not PANIC, do not DESPAIR because our stolen mandate shall be restored as there is overwhelming and incontrovertible evidence of the SHAM called election to regain our stolen mandate through the constitutionally recognized means - The Court/Tribunal.”
