The Itsekiri Consultative Congress, ICC, has called on the Nigerian Army and Department of State Services, DSS, to immediately declare one Barr. Francis Abulu wanted, over allegation that he was the purported signatory to a publication by Egbema Integrity Group, EIG, which accused Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori of, "erecting a Government of injustice”.
Fresh Angle International understands that the said accusation by EIG, was sequel to the appointment of two Itsekiri indigenes from Warri North Local Government Area by Governor Oborevwori as Commissioner-nominees.
Egbema Integrity Group, reportedly insinuated that Governor Oborevwori is, “alienating the Ijaws of Warri North from executive office.”
But in a swift reaction, the pro Itsekiri Group, ICC, in an electronic statement syndicated to This Newspaper this afternoon, Thursday July 20, said though the threat by EIG seems laughable, it should be taken seriously by the relevant security agencies.
The statement, authored by the National Publicity Secretary of Itsekiri Consultative Congress, ICC and PDP Stakeholder Warri North, Edema Collins Oritsetimeyin (ECO) noted: “Our attention has been drawn to a publication being circulated in the media space by a group known and referred to as Egbema Integrity Group (EIG) wherein they unsuccessfully tried to blackmail the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency Governor Sheriff Oborevwori by labelling his Government as "erecting a Government of injustice.
“Ordinarily, we would not want to join words with a disoriented group such as the EIG, but to not allow them misinform the unsuspecting public we decided to respond.
“First, it is irresponsible for the Egbema Integrity Group (EIG) to erroneously state that ‘The disposition of the Governor in alienating the Ijaws of Warri North from executive office, shows he does not understand the political calibration of the state he is voted to govern.
“This statement is not only a cheap political blackmail but an attempt by the EIG to undermine the office of our dear governor. For a man who served as the longest serving Speaker of our dear state, before becoming a governor to be referred to as such means that the leadership of the EIG is not only myopic, but lack political foresight beyond the creeks of Egbema Kingdom.
“It is also a fallacious claim by the EIG to say the Ijaws of Egbema and the Itsekiris are equal stake holders in Warri North L.G.A despite accepting that the Ijaws of Egbema has Four Wards while Itsekiri has Six Wards. One question begging for answer is on what basis are we equal stakeholders?
“Is it based on the wards in the ratio of 4:6 or numbers of votes casted in the gubernatorial election for Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori or the financial burden borne to deliver the L.G.A for the PDP? The Ijaws of Egbema should not always be quick to cry marginalization when they were nowhere to be found when it was time to go to the trenches for election.
“The Itsekiris of Warri North, will not always play a political ‘Father Christmas’ of using their resources and electoral strength to deliver the PDP and then gift the Egbema Ijaws political seats which they didn't spend their resources on.
“It is worthy of note that the Egbema Integrity Group (EIG) deliberately refused to mention the fact that an Egbema man, Hon Smart Asekutu is the current Chairman of Warri North L.G.A and failed to deliver his own primary domain for the PDP in the Gubernatorial elections for the Warri North State Constituency.
“The Itsekiri Nation, despite being the highest producer of Crude Oil and Gas in Delta State, has never threatened the relative peace in Warri North, Warri South, or Warri South-West.
“We are taken aback that the EIG decided to threaten the smooth operation of Oil Companies in the area by stating that "The Egbema Integrity Group, cannot guarantee the smooth operation of Oil Companies in our area anymore as this action has overheated the fragile peace we are experiencing in Warri North".
“This is despite calling on Egbema Sons and Daughters to protest the perceived injustice. We wish to place on record that we will match the Egbema Integrity Group protest with our own protest to support whatever the Governor has done as regards the appointment of Commissioners and pledge our full support for His Excellency Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to succeed in his tenure.
“Finally, the EIG seems to forget that though the era of violent agitation is now a thing of the past, threatening the Delta State Government of attack on oil installations, is not only criminal, but treasonable.
“We also wish to draw the attention of the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to the threat made by the Egbema Integrity Group (EIG) and get Barr. Francis Abulu arrested.”
