Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, has warned communities harboring members of the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, to be ready to bear the consequences of their action, even as they commended President Buhari for the bold step taken in the Ogoni land clean issue.
MEND in an online statement also blamed former President Jonathan for not developing the Niger Delta during his 6-years as President of Nigeria, saying the Ogoni people did not benefit from his administration.
In a statement by its Spokesman, Gbomo Jomo they said those harboring the NDA should know that they are not protected by the extant principles of International and or municipal law during a conflict.
According to MEND, “we note with grave concern the recent renewed spate of unprovoked and persistent attacks on Nigeria’s oil installations by the Niger Delta Avengers. What are more worrisome to us is the ungodly conspiracy of silence of the region’s elite and their tacit support of the NDA conduct under the pretext of a so-called Niger Delta struggle”.
MEND however urged the Federal Government to toe the path of dialogue rather than the deployment of the nations’ military might against the NDA and innocent people of the region.
