Lions Club International commemorates 2023 World  Literacy Day With Students In Warri

In commemoration of 2023 World Literacy Day, the committee on Reading Action Project (RAP) under, District 404A-4 on Monday September 25, organized a Reading and Writing programme and donated educational materials to the Institute of Continuing Education in Warri, Delta state.

 

World Literacy Day has been a day set aside by the United Nations and celebrated each year on the 8th of September to highlight the importance and value of literary education for individuals and groups.

 

 

Our Senior Roving Correspondent reports that the programme is one of many put together by Lions Club International annually to promote the joy of reading and learning as well as reach out to students in need.

 

Speaking at the event, the Chairperson of the committee, on Literacy and Student - Speaker Contest, Lion Adebisi Dickson of Warri Opal Lions Club, tasked the students to concentrate on their studies and be respectfull to their teachers. 

 

He noted that, in the next edition of the programme, Lions Club will form a Leo club in the school, where they can grow into Lions club.

He awarded five students scholarship for next term and promised to give the best students at the end of the term a scholarship. 

 

The Vice chairperson of the committee, Lion Grace Amaye Quick MJF, NLCF of Warri Sapphire Lions Club, urged the students to improve on their reading and writing skills and be confident when reading and speaking in public.

 

Lion Rita Iheme from Warri La-chikk Lions Club encouraged the students to be serious with their education, just as she conducted the reading exercise in Jss one class and commended those who read very well.

She awarded two students who answered questions correctly a cash gift of 5000 Naira each and gave a complete set of school uniforms worth 10,000 Naira to another student. 

 

Lion Amb. Iyovware Leri PMJF, NLCF of Warri Intergrity Lions Club conducted the spelling exercise with the students and other Lions Club members came out in mass to support the occasion.

Fresh Angle International can report that students from JSS1 & JSS2 class were given educational writing materials such as Lions Club International customised note books, pencils, erasers, rulers and pen.

 

The co- ordinator of the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) Warri, Mrs. Odeimor Kena commended Lions Club International for their kind gesture and prayed for God’s blessings for the organisation to continue to do more.
