Strike: We are back to work - Warri South NULGE Chairman, Emiko declares

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Warri South Chapter, Comrade Raymond Emiko, says workers in Warri South Local Government Council, have returned to work, following the suspension of the indefinite strike by the Organized Labour.

Our ‘Batch A’ ‘Stream 2’ Corps member, Ogunsola Temiloluwa Janet and Our Industrial Attache, from Federal University, Otuoke in Bayelsa State, Omoni Perewre Blessing, report that Comrade Emiko, made the declaration, today, Tuesday October 3, at the Warri South Council Main Secretariat in Warri, Delta State, during an exclusive interview.

Comrade Emiko, stated: We have been asked to go back to work, and we are back to work, in line with the last-minute signed agreement between the federal government and NLC. NULGE is under NLC.

“The strike has been suspended, not indefinitely, but for 30 days, pending when the federal government will implement the promises they’ve made and labor demands also.”

On the controversies surrounding the distribution of palliatives, the Warri South NULGE chairman, asserted: “The palliative is in two ways. The state government directed that N10,000 should be given to civil servants for 3 months, it started in August 2023, but September just ended, so we’re expecting that of September.

“The other palliative that came in the form of foodstuffs, was for the poor and vulnerable and it has been distributed to the Warri South people.”

“The NULGE was part of the committee as nominated by the state government. So, our duty was to monitor and ensure the palliative was distributed and it was fairly done to the best of my knowledge. Like I said, the palliative came in two ways, one for cash (for civil servants) and the other in the form of foodstuffs (for the aged, vulnerable, poor, physically challenged people).”

Whilst commending the Warri South Local Government Chairman, Dr. Michael Tidi, “for his role in addressing the concerns of the workers”, Emiko stated, “Generally, the unionism is welfare of workers and a safe working environment too, we agitate for that. So far so good, the chairman we have in Warri South (Dr. Tidi) is doing wonderfully well. We have no reason to quarrel; he makes sure our demands are being met.”
