In what looks like a major signal to tougher times ahead for Deltans, Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa has openly acknowledged that the State monthly revenue has fallen drastically as a result of continued attacks of crude oil and gas pipelines by the Niger Delta Avengers and its allied militants group, declaring that “we can’t destroy ourselves because of our anger”.

Governor Okowa who made the statement Thursday June 9 in Warri, Delta State shortly before commissioning the Okere-Urhobo Community link roads: Ejiyere, Dederu and Akemu streets, executed by the State Government, in Warri, called on militants to stop pipeline bombings as well as other vices, noting that such acts are capable of discouraging investors from coming to Delta State.

While commending youths of Okere-Urhobo for their peaceful disposition which made the execution of the road projects achievable, Dr. Okowa assured people of Warri South Local Government Area that his administration will give the needed attention to other areas in the council in the quest to develop the State.

Earlier in an address, the Acting Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Hon. Charlie Etsaghara, noted that the entire people of Warri South Local Government Area, especially the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Mofe Edema “will forever be grateful to the Delta State Government,” ably led by Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for the road projects.

Hon. Etsaghara averred that the achievements so far recorded in diversification of the State economy by empowering Delta youths through the YAGEP and STEP Programmes need not be over-emphasized and appealed to youths in the State to work towards the actualization of a more peaceful Delta so as to attract more development as well as genuine investors.

Meanwhile, Senior Special Assistant to Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa on Political Affairs and Chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Matthew Poko Opuoru has stated that the newly commissioned road projects in Okere-Urhobo will bring about economic development to the area in particular and Warri South Local Government Area as a whole.
