In a bid to boost the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR of the State, Bayelsa State House of Assembly has ensured that an executive bill sponsored by Governor Seriake Dickson passes through its second reading, waiting for the Assembly Joint Committee on Finance to give final touches and return it for final passage into law.
Speaking at the plenary, Leader of the House, Hon. Peter Akpe representing Sagbama Constituency 1 said the importance of the bill cannot be over emphasized, coming at a time of drastic drop in the State revenue profile.
Hon. Akpe urged the judiciary to up their game as interpreters of the law, stressing that it will bring about seriousness and take Bayelsa State to the peak of internally generated revenue.
The Law maker called for speedy passage of the bill owing to the fact that when it becomes a law, it will uplift the yearnings of Bayelsans.
In his contribution, the member representing Southern Ijaw Constituency 1, Hon. Kate Owoko said all States of the federation have been stepping up on their Internally Generated Revenue and frowned at the level of diversion of Bayelsa State IGR by individuals.
Our Bayelsa State Correspondent reports that the Joint Committee on Finance is expected to submit its report on Tuesday June 21.
