Indigenes of Ugborodo communities, in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, in their hundreds staged a peaceful protest against Chevron Nigeria, at Chevron Escravos Terminal in Ugborodo, demanding for the implementation of Ikpere Host Community Development Trust, IHCDT, as agreed by NUPRC and insensitivity of Chevron to the plight of their host community.
Our Senior Roving Correspondent, reports that the protest which started on Monday continued yesterday Wednesday November 22, with some of the aggrieved protesters carrying different placards barricading the Chevron dock which had been closed by the protesters with “Cotonou” boats.
Some of the protesters who were at the Chevron ETGL facility decried the continuous neglect and marginalization by Chevron Nigeria with chants, and inscriptions such as “stop the gross marginalization against Ugborodo community”, “we need job security in Ugborodo”, “give us our contract in the turnaround maintenance” and “ Engage Community in the ongoing conversion.”

The Ugborodo Woman- Leader, Mrs. Helen Uruemure stated that several correspondents have been sent to Chevron in regard to employment of the Ugborodo Youth but there has been no response from them. She said “as the woman leader, I have written to them to employ our youth in the ongoing turnaround maintenance but they have not responded “
“We want electricity in our communities, contract and employment for our youths, we wont leave here until our demands are met” she stated.

Indigenes of Ugborodo Community, Mr. Joseph Irieyefoju and Augustine Iyinbo, accused Chevron of giving out jobs to non-indigene, saying, “workers are brought from outside to do their jobs, our PIA have not been implemented as agreed by NUPRC, we are underdeveloped, we will not relent until Chevron comes and dialogue with host communities under Ugborodo”
We are here to take our destiny by force and that is why we brought our ancestors to this protest”, he said.
