DESOPADEC Commissioner, Goru moves against "School na scam" syndrome, procures JAMB forms for students

The member representing Udu, Ughelli South, Uvwie and Urhobos of Warri South Local Government Area in the Board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Hon. Oghenekaro Goru, has procured over 300 JAMB forms for students in his mandate area, saying it is “a step to discourage the notion of "School na scam" syndrome.”

 

Our Senior Roving Correspondent, reports that Hon. Goru, stressed that the wrong notion of "School na scam", which is fast spreading amongst the young ones, must be nipped in the bud by everyone in the society.

 

Hon. Goru, further explained that the move was also geared towards bringing relief to families that were unable to meet up with their needs, due to the economic challenges in the country.

“We want to take this burden away from the parents so that their wards can concentrate on their studies to prepare for the examination”, he said 

 

Specifying the qualifying requirements for selection of students to benefit from the empowerment programme, Hon. Goru, said though the offer is not limited to Local Government Area of residence, the student must possess photocopies of last term's result for those still in secondary school; letter of recommendation for those still in secondary school and must have a minimum credit pass in English Language and Mathematics.

 

Expressing his commitment to supporting deserving students through their educational journey, he promised a scholarship for university education to the highest performing student in the examination.

 

According to him, “The main hope of a nation lies in the proper education of its youth”, urging the youths to take advantage of the opportunity and strive for academic excellence.
