Police debunks kidnap of nine passengers

The Kogi State Police Command has debunked media report that nine passengers were Kidnapped along Oshokoshoko, Kabba-Obajana-Lokoja road in the State.

Speaking to our correspondent on Tuesday, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), SP William Ovye Aya said the kidnap of nine passengers as reported by some section of the media is false and should be disregarded by members of the public.

Aya admonished media organizations to always verify their information before going to press.

According to him, "the media report that a driver  was abducted alongside two students, four men and two women along Obajana Ochokochoko last week Saturday is false.

"I called the DPO, and we can confirm that only one Woman was abducted by the suspected kidnappers. The Police is currently trailing them, and we are assuring Kogites that the Woman will be rescued unhurt from her abductors. There is no need for panic.

"The information being reported in some section of the media that nine persons were Kidnapped didn't happen this year. It is an old story. The Police alongside other security agencies remains committed in protecting lives and properties in the State".

It was gathered that, some section of the media had reported the kidnap of nine persons who were travelling from Kabba to Lokoja.

Some media organizations not freshangle had quoted one Elupo Eliazer, a person with disability who claimed that his wife is among the victims kidnapped.

He said "The kidnappers initially demanded 30 million but later reduced it to 2.6 million after negotiation.

“My wife and I were traveling to attend our church convention scheduled for Lokoja, but I decided to follow a different vehicle as the Toyota could not contain all of us; otherwise, I would have been in the car with her. The vehicle my wife boarded was ahead of the one I was in. But all the occupants of the vehicle were marched into the bush by the time my own vehicle got to the spot".
