ICOMAN Holds  One  Day  Workshop  On  Safeguarding  Crude  Oil  Facilities

The Independent Crude Oil Marketers Association Of Nigeria (ICOMAN) South-South and South -East chapter, on Saturday March 2, held its inaugural enlightenment workshop on Rebuilding ICOMAN to Safeguarding Nigeria’s Crude Oil Facilities.

 

Fresh Angle International, can report that the event was held at the ICOMAN National Secretariat in Ajamimogha Warri, Delta State.

 

 

 

The National President of ICOMAN, Hon. Pastor Faith Odonghanro in his opening address, explained that the protection of crude oil and all the assets related to the production and marketing of it, is a critical issue facing our society today.

 

He noted the impact of crude oil extraction and its usage on the environment, thereby calling on ICOMAN members to take proactive measures to protect crude oil assets from being vandalized as well as put a stop to oil theft in Nigeria by working with government security agencies in and outside Nigeria according to legal provisions.

 

Hon. Odonghanro concluded by stating that the protection of crude oil facilities is not only a matter of economic stability or environmental preservation but a moral obligation for ICOMAN members to be part of all its operations. 

 

ICOMAN Head of Administration Hon Emmanuel Ogan, a guest speaker at the event spoke on “Exploring the Prospects and Policies of ICOMAN in collaboration with Federal Government Objectives on Crude Oil Production."

 

He highlighted ways ICOMAN as a civil society organization can access funding and work with government as follows; 

 

Firstly by identifying potential funds sources, review eligibility of such funds, develop a high quality proposal that will align with the objectives and priorities of the funding source, submit the proposal and do a follow up.

 

A legal practitioner and guest speaker, Barr Efe Onojafe spoke on “ Petroleum and Territorial Water Laws” noting that despite the laws the Federal Government has put in place , like Petroleum Industry Act( PIA) and Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Act, crude oil theft and vandalism is still ongoing in Nigeria. 

 

He called on ICOMAN to use the available laws in line with Federal Government regulations to protect the oil facilities saying “ it is the responsibility of ICOMAN to use these laws to protect our environment as well as economy.

 

 

Our Senior Roving Correspondent, reports that the National Coordination Crude Oil Allocation and Inter-Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman, Engr. Peter Inyang Peter spoke on Mapping Out the Nigeria’s Oil Assets Areas/Security and Safe guarding of Nigerian Crude Oil Facilities.

He stated that it is imperative for all ICOMAN members to know the oil facilities in their respective communities in order for them to check, verify, trace every salient point of illegal activities in Nigeria oil and gas sector.

 

He proffered solutions to the challenges of safeguarding our oil facilities as, using drones, satellite and ICOMAN security task force to put an end to these inimical activities in the Niger Delta.

 

Madam Justina Bariwei spoke on “ The need to Partner and Engage With Security Agencies in the Operations of ICOMAN.

 

The President in his vote of thanks, commended all participants for honouring the invitation, stating that the body’s expectation was that the enlightenment, interaction and networking afforded by the workshop would position all stakeholders to contribute to the growth of ICOMAN.
