The President of Association of Gbaramatu Female Graduates, Barr. Iyorubi Itima, has called on women to invest in themselves and support one another.
Barr. Itima, gave the advice at the NNPC Junior Staff Club, Effurun, Delta State, today, Friday March 8, during the celebration of International Women’s Day, IWD, by members of the Association of Gbaramatu Female Graduates.
Our Senior Roving Correspondent, reports that Barr. Itima, who spoke on the theme; ‘Invest in women, to accelerate progress’, noted that IWD, is a day dedicated to celebrating and recognizing the various achievements that are gained by women across different economic, social, political and cultural spheres.
“This is why we are here today, as women to celebrate ourselves, away from the challenges of everyday life”, she said.
Barr. Itima, further stated that IWD is one of the important days to promote social change and gender equality among women.
She encouraged women not to relent in pursuit of their careers, but strive for greater heights, saying: “There may be few discouragements on the way to success, but don’t give up.

A seasoned broadcaster and community development activist, Mrs. Ebiye Orubi-Ugoji, who spoke on the “The Importance of Women in the Society and Why we Need to Involve Women”, said women have the ability to control resources and people in their household, hence they should be included in politics to ensure gender equality. Where there is a woman, magical things happen”, Mrs. Orubi-Ugoji, averred.
It was all fun and games as the women were treated to sumptuous meals and drinks, while Barr. Itima, promised to give grants to some of the women, in order to support their businesses.

High point of the event, was when Surveyor, Mrs. Gift Francisca Itima and Mrs. Beauty Wuruyai, won different gifts worth over 70,000 Naira, sponsored by Origlame.
