Warri North Council  inaugurates taskforce to prevent clashes between farmers, herders

The Acting Chairman and Head of Personnel Management of Warri North Local Government Council, Mr Clement Anighoro earlier today, Wednesday May 22, inaugurated a special Anti Open Grazing Tasks Force at the Warri North Council Secretariat.

 

Fresh Angle International, understands that the inauguration, was in - line with the state governor, Rt. Sheriff Oborevwori 's MORE AGENDA of achieving sustainable peace and an investment - friendly environment.

He said the special task force became necessary to prevent the frequent clashes between herders and farmers in the state.

 

According to him, the special anti open grazing law was established in 2021, which ban's open grazing and prevent livestocks and animal access to destroy arable farmland in the local government area, hence members of the committee must take this tasks ahead of them seriously.

 

He maintained that State Governor, Rt.Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is very determined and passionate about the peaceful co-existence of all Deltans, irrespective of ethnic cleavages and religion.

 

Mr Anighoro, who is also the chairman of the special task force challenged members to work according to the law establishing "the Delta State Livestock Breeding, Rearing and Marketing law 2021".

 

The law which seeks to prevent the destruction of farm crops , community ponds, settlement and properties, often caused by open grazing, was also targeted at preventing clashes between nomadic livestock herders and crop farmers in the state, so as to optimize the use of land resources in the state, and create large scale land for crop as well as animal production among other things.

 

Members of the tasks force, who were drawn from the various Agricultural associations in Nigeria, had a composition of the state Livestock Officer, All farmers Association of Nigeria, National Butchers Union of Nigeria, Cattle Dealers and Rearers Association, Men of the Nigerian Police force, DSS, Civil Defense corps.etc.

 

Appreciating the state for the bold step in inaugurating the committee, Mr James Orokuyeri chairman of AFAN in Warri North Local Government Area, thanked the governor for making their dream a reality and promised that they will work according to the law.

 

Our Warri North Correspondent reports that the Acting Chairman charged members of the committee to deploy their experience in the discharge of their duties, while also appealing to them to see themselves as advocate of peace and not division. He congratulated the members of the special task force for their appointment.
