The Ugborodo Graduates Association, UGA, has written the Chairman and Managing Director, CMD of the Nigeria/Mid-Africa (NMA) business unit of Chevron International Exploration and Production, alleging the swapping of names of Itsekiri extraction, with non-indigenes in the company’s JV FM and EGTL FM projects.
In the letter dated Thursday August 1 and made available to Fresh Angle International, Friday August 2, UGA, fingered a staff of Chevron Nigeria Limited, in the alleged shortchanging and name swap, saying the said staff of Chevron Nigeria Limited (name withheld) is guilty of, “outright use of influence, connections, wanton disregard of authority.”
The Ugborodo graduates’ body, in the letter authored by its President, Clifford Monday, lamented: “As intellectuals of your host community, Ugborodo, we are unable to sit and remain taciturn, while your employees flout your laid down rules and regulations of operations with flagrant disregard.
“We have observed how our Itsekiri brothers and sisters are booked out of - Facilities Management FM department, Escravos in the name of compliance issues.
“While other tribes with family members with same surname in lots of departments are left untouched, like the sacred golden egg. Our telescopic eyes, have picked how you demobilized Itsekiris, who have worked and given over 10years of their productive life as contract staff because Chevron transferred one of their staff to the same department ten years later, even without the contract staff committing any offense.
“We will like to remind you that we attended a recent meeting where it was resolved that CNL will never meddle with and influence contractors’ choice of workers. We see how you restrain employment of our qualified graduates, outline unrealistic job qualifications in a ploy to mobilize your own friends, girlfriends and relatives to site.
“We write to inform you that we are very much aware of your ‘antics’ of operations instead of your tenets of operation at play in JV FM and EGTL FM, with regards to the new service contractors- Brownhill Investment and Coma Industry.
“We noticed how you hurriedly booked our graduates without notice like sheep without a shepherd, in a sinister ploy to meet up your compliance requirements.”
The body tabled demands such as investigation of the said Chevron staff and his purported friend, allowing service contractors to conduct recruitment justly, without the interference and meddling of CNL employees and managers, recall of all Itsekiri personnel in the list sent to them by PGPA, to resume immediately, better treatment and compensation for all Itsekiri workers at the end of each service contract and payment of arrears owed Itsekiri service workers as at when booked.
They warned: “We advise you sincerely give our demands the urgent treatment and attention they require so that it will not metamorphose into something your organization (CNL) will be sorry about.”
Recall that the Chief Operating Officer, COO of BrownHill Group, Bemigho Wagbatsoma, had accused Itsekiri National Development Initiative, INDI of maligning Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, “for no reason” when the group accused the Oil and Gas Major of “dropping Itsekiri people unjustly” in its “operations,” as it affects the JV FM and EGTL FM projects.
